Day event in Romania
World of Rhythm Simon & Chris delivered a successful creative teambuilding day workshop which set out to implement new leadership standards set by Merek. There were 75 participants, the whole company (Romania) was present. The day began with a presentation which included areas in which the company needed to improve, in which the lack of passion, strong leadership, and customer focus had seen Merek lose its edge and thus its share in the market. World of Rhythm were brought in to improve the feel good factor, to bring th team together and to find creative ways in which the team could explore the 4 leadership values: Innovate, Insipre, Integrity and impact.
The day began on the beach, in which after a couple of warm up exercises, the group were split into 4 and were given the sand castle challenge: to be creative as a team without speaking. To communicate non verbally and to work together. The pieces which were produced were full of imagination and involved other worldly creations! Some of the team struggled to work without speaking. The lack of silence and respect seemed to be an issue for some participants throughtout the day.
The day continued with a upbeat drum / rhythm orchestra session in which the team learned about listening, connecting and that everyone – no matter how small the instrument – made a difference and makes a difference to the team. The energy for this was high and was the first time many of them had experienced drumming / playing music together. The day followed with a feedback session which at first people were reluctant to open up and still had difficulty being respectful. There had been several teambuilding sessions in the past which had not gone down well. Slowly though, several managers spoke about the positives of working for Merek and some dialogue stated between smaller groups encouraged by the facilitators.
After lunch, wor facilitated some get to know you exercises in groups of 5. The questions were early childhood memories, greatest achievement and a big life change. Everyone shared and made notes before opening up to the rest of the group with some of the stories. There was much laughter as people opened up to each other and team members got to know their collegues in a new way.
The final challenge was to take the passion and essence of these personal stories, to take their own heartbeat and bring it to the collective pulse of Merek and its values. The task was to find a way of perfoming these values with the energy of their own personal passions. At first the challenge seemed too great but slowly as they worked in their groups, the performances emerged and everyone was treated to a series of wonderful performances using the instruments, poems & theatre, which brought the house down. The day ended on such a high as they came though difficulties to achieve something great. Everyone was presented with a drum and 3 Heartbeat tokens, to be given to members of their team when they acted on the new leadership standards.
The feedback was fantastic, with the management team wanting to follow up in August to take the process deeper and to new levels.
The managers stated that this was the best teambuilding type event they had been involved in for 7 years and were very happy with the outcome
